Rabat – Moroccan sambo champion Chaymae Boudik has spoken out against what she calls an “injustice” after being left off the list of athletes selected to represent Morocco at the upcoming African Games.
Boudik, crowned national champion in April 2026 at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca, said she had respected all the requirements set by officials before the selection process.
In a video statement on social media, she expressed deep frustration, claiming her sporting rights had been denied.
“I am being subjected to injustice in sambo,” she said. “My goal was simply to represent Morocco abroad and raise the national flag.”
The pre‑selection controversy
According to Boudik, after winning the national title, she was told she must take part in a pre‑selection bout before being considered for the Games.
She accepted, arrived on the scheduled day, met the weight requirement, and prepared to compete.
Boudik claims the other athlete scheduled for the test did not attend and did not explain. Despite this, she later discovered that the absent athlete’s name appeared on the official list of selected competitors, while hers did not.
The case has drawn attention to the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sambo and Tai Jitsu, which has not issued a public explanation.
Boudik accused the federation of unfair exclusion, adding that its request for comment went unanswered.
The situation has sparked wider debate about transparency and fairness in Moroccan sport, particularly in disciplines that receive less media coverage.
Athlete profile
Beyond sambo, Boudik presents herself as a certified sport nutrition specialist, qualified sport scientist, and professional MMA fighter.
She said the issue is not only about one competition but about the principle of equal treatment for athletes who train, compete, and follow official procedures.
“You took my right,” she said, describing the pain of seeing her name omitted despite fulfilling the conditions.
Her testimony has been widely shared on Moroccan sports pages and social media, where users expressed support and showed concerns about the state of sambo in Morocco.
For now, the federation’s silence leaves the controversy unresolved. Until an official response is given,
Boudik’s exclusion remains a serious question mark over the selection process. For the athlete herself, the matter is about more than one tournament; it is about fairness, recognition, and the right to compete for her country.
