Rabat – Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred is facing a new trial for an alleged rape case in Saint Tropez in 2018.
AFP reported today that the Moroccan singer, 41, appeared in court accompanied by his wife.
The same source emphasized his support for the singer.
The alleged victim requests a private trial, disallowing Lamjarred’s wife, Ghita, to attend.
The alleged victim’s lawyer, Domonique Lardans, expressed frustration over the delay in the trial. “A very long wait, too long a wait,” Lardans told AFP, recalling the trial was already postponed in December last year.
Lamjarred recalled the case that took place in 2018, stating that he could speak in French, but he would express himself better in Moroccan.
The alleged victim claimed Lamjaarred took her to his room, tried to kiss her, and forced her into bed to allegedly rape her.
Lamjarred, however, denied the claims, saying the encounter was consensual.
In France, Lamjarred also faced another case, in which he was sentenced to six years in prison by the Paris Assize Court in 2023. The case dates back to when Laura P, whom he met in a nightclub in Paris, also accused him of alleged rape in 2016 in a hotel room. He denied the accusations and appealed the case.
The appeal case was scheduled in June 2025 but was postponed due to proceedings against the alleged victim and others suspected of attempting to blackmail the singer.
In April this year, a court in Paris cleared Laura P of charges related to an alleged attempt to blackmail Lamjarred.
The court concluded that the evidence was insufficient to prove her intent to seek financial gain for altering her testimony.
