Casablanca — Casablanca’s wholesale market posted mixed food price movements this week, with fruit prices easing in several categories while vegetables remained relatively stable, according to the latest weekly bulletin from Casablanca Prestations.

Red meat prices at the city’s municipal slaughterhouses also showed slight changes as Eid Al Adha approaches and demand patterns begin to shift.

Tomatoes widened their price range to MAD 3.50–7.50/kg, compared to MAD 3.50–6.50/kg a week earlier. Carrots also edged higher on the upper end, reaching MAD 3.50/kg against MAD 3.00/kg previously. Fresh onions held steady at MAD 1.20–2.50/kg.

Dry onions, however, continued climbing for a second consecutive week. Prices reached between MAD 6.00 and 10.00/kg, up from MAD 6.00–9.00/kg the previous week. The upward movement follows the same pattern seen in recent bulletins.

Potatoes remained unchanged at MAD 3.50–6.50/kg. Cauliflower and white cabbage also stayed stable, at MAD 1.50–2.50/kg and MAD 1.50–3.00/kg, respectively. Courgettes moved slightly higher to MAD 2.00–3.50/kg after ranging between MAD 1.50 and 3.00/kg last week. Cucumbers and eggplants also firmed, both settling at a minimum of MAD 2.00/kg, with upper prices reaching MAD 3.80/kg for eggplants.

Among fruits, oranges recorded one of the sharpest declines of the week, falling to MAD 2.50–4.00/kg from MAD 3.50–6.50/kg previously. Watermelon prices also dropped to MAD 1.50–3.50/kg, compared to MAD 2.00–4.50/kg last week, while honeydew melon slipped to MAD 3.00–7.00/kg from MAD 3.50–9.00/kg.

Avocados remained among the most expensive fruits at MAD 20.00–35.00/kg. Imported bananas stayed at MAD 10.00–15.00/kg, while local bananas ranged between MAD 7.00–11.00/kg. Local apples remained at MAD 8.00–15.00/kg and imported apples at MAD 12.00–23.00/kg.

At Casablanca’s municipal slaughterhouses, beef prices ranged between MAD 85.00 and 98.00/kg, compared to MAD 86.00–98.00/kg a week earlier. Lamb prices slipped slightly on the lower end to MAD 118.00–125.00/kg from MAD 120.00–125.00/kg.

With Eid Al Adha drawing closer, weekly market bulletins have continued showing fluctuating meat and produce prices, particularly for onions, seasonal fruits, and red meat.
