The upcoming CAF Champions League final between AS FAR and Mamelodi Sundowns is not just attracting attention in Morocco and South Africa but it’s set to reach fans across the world.
Ahead of Sunday’s first-leg showdown in Pretoria, CAF has confirmed a wide international broadcast rollout, showing just how much the profile of African club football continues to grow. What was once mainly followed on the continent is now finding a much broader audience, with football fans watching across Africa, Europe, Asia and beyond able to tune in.
Many big broadcasters are part of the coverage plans, including beIN Sports, CANAL+, DAZN, SuperSport, and Channel 4 in the United Kingdom, all of which will carry one of African club football’s biggest matches of the year.
For Moroccan fans, the match will be available on Arryadia (SNRT), and in South Africa can be watched onSABC Sport. Azam TV will broadcast the game in Tanzania as part of the expanded coverage.
The reach of the final goes well beyond traditional markets. beIN Sports will provide coverage across the MENA region, and also air the game in France, the United States and parts of the South Pacific. CANAL+ will broadcast in more than 30 countries across sub-Saharan Africa, while SuperSport will cover 36 territories across the continent.
One of the more notable additions this year is DAZN, which will broadcast the competition for the first time in over 25 territories, including Japan, South Korea and China. It’s another sign that CAF is pushing to bring its competitions to a larger global audience.
Fans in Europe will also have several options, with broadcasters including Sport TV in Portugal, Megogo in Ukraine, and Sport Klub across countries such as Slovenia, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The first leg takes place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Sunday at 16:00 local time (14:00 GMT), before the second leg in Rabat on May 24, where the new African champions will be crowned.
This final feels like another step forward for the CAF Champions League. With worldwide coverage and a record $6 million prize on the line, AS FAR–Sundowns is turning into a global event.
