Rabat – Morocco’s AS FAR lost 1‑0 to Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final, played today at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The opening minutes were cautious, with both sides testing each other but avoiding risks.

AS FAR showed defensive discipline and resisted Sundowns’ early pressure.

Gradually, the Moroccan side grew into the game and nearly struck first when Younes Abdelhamid headed just wide in the 22nd minute.

Despite creating chances, AS FAR lacked sharpness in front of the goal.

Sundowns capitalized on a set piece, breaking the deadlock through Aubrey Modiba in the 37th minute.

His finish gave the South African side a narrow lead heading into halftime.

The second half began with drama off the pitch. Kickoff was delayed for more than 15 minutes after a malfunction in the VAR system.

Officials eventually resumed play without video assistance until the 67th minute, adding to the tension of the final.

AS FAR pushed hard for an equalizer after the restart. Coach Alexandre Santos urged his players forward, but the final touch was missing.

Several promising attacks broke down in the box, while Sundowns threatened on the counter but failed to add a second.

The match ended 1‑0, leaving the tie finely balanced. Sundowns hold the advantage, but AS FAR remain very much in contention with the return leg to come.

The decisive match will be played at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Sunday, May 24, with kickoff at 8 p.m local time (GMT+1).

AS FAR will need to overturn the deficit in front of their home supporters to claim Africa’s biggest club prize.
