Casablanca — Morocco has made a lasting choice to invest in the standing of its police institution, its operational capacities, training, technology, and working conditions, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Interpol President Lucas Philippe said Sunday in Rabat.

Speaking at the opening of the Open Days of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), Philippe said the influence of a police institution is measured at several levels. It begins internally, through the pride of those who serve it. It then reaches citizens through the trust it inspires, before extending beyond borders through the credibility it projects internationally.

He said the DGSN is not only strengthening its operational and technological capacities, but is also carrying out a deep transformation in the relationship between police and citizens. He cited better reception services, stronger responsiveness, continuity of service, and a culture focused on results, performance, and impact.

According to Philippe, this transformation is built at every level on the trust carried by people.

He also referred to the new DGSN headquarters, saying it crowns this ambition and reflects the vision of the institution’s leadership. Security, he said, needs resources, vision, and recognition equal to the missions entrusted to those who guarantee it. The new headquarters, he added, is a real sign of confidence in the mission and professionalism of Morocco’s police family.

Philippe said this spirit is also part of Interpol’s identity. For more than 100 years, he noted, the organization has built its influence through the unique unifying power of security.

Interpol shares with the DGSN the belief that the influence of a police institution also depends on the concrete conditions in which police officers carry out their daily work, he said. For this reason,  Interpol’s headquarters in Lyon is currently undergoing a major expansion project that matches the ambition the organization represents.

The Interpol president also spoke of the need to build a sense of belonging not only at the national level, but beyond borders. He said Interpol’s goal is to create a real global police community, bringing together 25 million police officers from 196 member countries around one common mission, to protect and build more ties, trust, and collective pride.

Philippe said there can be no stability, attractiveness, or trust without security, and no security without strong, modern, and recognized police institutions. Morocco, he said, has understood this and is demonstrating it.

The event comes as the DGSN marks its 70th anniversary. Philippe offered his congratulations to all women and men of the DGSN on the occasion and wished the institution success in this new stage of its history.
