Moroccan Journalist and TV Presenter Chihab Zariouh Dies at 58

Rabat – The Moroccan media scene lost one of its familiar voices on Wednesday morning, with the death of journalist and television news presenter Chihab Zariouh at a private clinic in Rabat. 

His death comes after a professional journey that stretched over thirty years across national radio and television.

For many viewers, Zariouh represented a steady presence on the news broadcasts of Al Aoula. His face became part of the daily routine of public information, particularly through the channel’s flagship news bulletins, where he built a reputation for clarity and composure on air.

Born in 1968, he entered the media field in 1994 through national radio. He later moved to the information division of Al Aoula, where he took on duties as reporter and news anchor. 

Over the years, his work extended beyond the studio, with assignments that took him across Morocco and abroad.

People who worked with him recall a journalist marked by discipline and strong editorial standards. His background in English studies, combined with fluency in several languages, gave him ease in international coverage and contact with foreign sources.

Inside the newsroom, colleagues also describe a quiet and respectful figure, someone who maintained professional ties built on trust and close collaboration. 

He remained active in his role even after a long illness that lasted close to ten years, during which he followed repeated medical treatment.

On the night of Tuesday, May 19, he underwent surgery at a private clinic in Rabat. His condition remained serious until his death the following morning.

His death leaves a noticeable absence within Morocco’s public broadcasting community, where he spent most of his career and where many remember him as part of the channel’s institutional memory.
