Fez – Moroccan police have arrested a 42-year-old man suspected of physically abusing his nine-year-old son after reports of the alleged violence sparked swift action from security authorities.

The arrest was carried out on Sunday morning by officers of the Settat Police Prefecture based on precise intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), according to a statement issued by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

Authorities said they moved quickly after information circulated in local media alleging that a child in the city of Ben Ahmed had been subjected to physical violence by his father.

The reports prompted an immediate response from national security services, which launched investigations to verify the allegations, identify the suspect and locate him.

Police were able to establish the identity of the individual in question and subsequently arrested him in the city of Settat.

The suspect, who is described by authorities as a repeat offender, is now being held as part of an ongoing judicial investigation.

According to the DGSN, the investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office and aims to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the alleged acts of violence, as well as uncover all details related to the case.

The authorities have not disclosed additional information regarding the duration or extent of the alleged abuse.

However, the case has attracted significant public attention due to the young age of the victim and the serious nature of the accusations.

While investigators continue their work, officials confirmed that the nine-year-old child is receiving the necessary medical and psychological support.

Specialized care has been put in place to address both the physical and emotional consequences of the alleged abuse and to ensure the child’s protection throughout the legal process.

The case highlights the growing role of coordination between Morocco’s security services in responding to incidents involving vulnerable individuals, particularly children.

Child protection remains a key issue in Morocco, where authorities, civil society organizations and social services have intensified efforts in recent years to combat domestic violence and strengthen safeguards for children exposed to abuse or neglect.

The outcome of the investigation is expected to determine whether criminal charges will be formally brought against the suspect.

Meanwhile, authorities have reiterated their commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring that children who are victims of violence receive the protection and support they need.
