Rabat – Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi continues to make headlines following PSG’s victory over the weekend to clinch the Champions League title in a thrilling final against Arsenal.
The widely celebrated Moroccan right-back added another achievement to his portfolio, with his trophy cabinet of three Champions League titles, matching Samuel Eto’o’s European record while surpassing both Eto’o and Yaya Toure as the most decorated African player in history.
Hakimi now also boasts three French Super Cup titles, two Coupe de France titles, one AFCON trophy with Morocco, in addition to five Ligue 1 titles, among several titles secured in different competitions, like Serie A, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, German Super Cup, and Spanish Super Cup.
This impressive list of achievements makes Hakimi a “history maker,” according to Fabrizio Romano.
“From Morocco to the world,” the sports commentator wrote of the PSG-right-back’s towering standing in world football.
In addition to Romano, several commentators and sports figures have commended Hakimi’s consistently brilliant performances over the past few years.
Tunisian coach Sami Trabelsi expressed satisfaction with Hakimi and his win with PSG in a comment for beIN Sports following the game.
Trabelsi said he hopes to see Morocco overtake its historic, semi-final-reaching run at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which would further boost Hakimi’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or.
Hakimi is among the 26-player lineup that coach Mohamed Ouahbi has called up for the much-anticipated World Cup, which will kick off on June 11.
The Atlas Lions are placed in Group C alongside Brazil, Scotland and Haiti.
Morocco’s opening game is against Brazil on June 13 at 11 p.m. Moroccan time.
