Rabat – Former Morocco international Noureddine Naybet is fully confident Morocco has all it takes to organize a “very good” FIFA World Cup in 2030.
Naybet conveyed Morocco’s pride in an interview with FIFA, stating the country is proud to be one of the co-hosts of the upcoming tournament in 2030, and that the country has everything it takes to organize the competition.
He recalled the proximity between Morocco and the two other host countries – Spain and Portugal – as well as the good history the three countries share.
“And most important, the fans there really like football. People live and breathe football,” he said.
For Naybet, this edition of the tournament is not only an honor for Morocco but for all of Africa as well as for the Arabs.
“We think it will be the best edition because it brings together three countries that have a historical relationship.”
He also commended the ongoing tournament in the US, Mexico, and Canada, stating it has been a phenomenal tournament with “great conditions.”
Naybet also commented on the hydration break, which has been creating controversy in this edition of the global tournament. The former Atlas Lions appeared to back the brief break in-between the two traditional breaks, describing it is a brief period that allows players to catch their breath.
He said FIFA is “always working to improve the management of football and enhance and deliver a global football product, and this change does exactly that.”
Defending the FIFA measure, Naybet believes the hydration break protects the players and takes into account the temperature.
Morocco is taking part in the tournament, which has now reached a decisive and breaking point phase in the competition.
Morocco made the headlines after its resilience to secure its spot in the Round of 16 of the tournament. Morocco will play its Round of 16 game against Canada on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Houston.
The Atlas Lions are showing that their qualification for the semifinals is not a coincidence.
