Rabat– Canada vs Morocco World Cup Round of 16 match is already making headlines, with reports indicating that the clash could be the most-watched sporting event.
RTN Toronto expects the match to attract between 300 and 500 million viewers worldwide.
The number is about “roughly 175 million on average for a 2022 World Cup match,” the report said.
The much-anticipated game is coming up on Saturday in Houston at 6 p.m. Moroccan time.
Moroccan fans know their team better, especially after their tremendous efforts throughout the tournament, securing wins against Haiti, Scotland, and the Netherlands.
Morocco also recorded a 1-1 draw against Brazil.
The Atlas Lions continue to strengthen the football status they built in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where the national team was the first Arab and African team to reach the semi-finals.
Canada head coach Jesse Marsch expressed confidence in his team’s physical condition.
He said this could play a role in his team’s performance on Saturday.
“We’re not going to change who we are,” he said. “We’ll make tactical adjustments based on the opponent, but our identity remains the same.”
Yet the coach acknowledged the challenge of preparing to face a confident and fearsomely technical Moroccan team.
“Preparing for Morocco is like a gory, horrible nightmare,” Marsch said Wednesday.
He made his remarks prior to Canada’s training session, adding that Morocco’s Atlas Lions have been incredibly good in this World Cup. “It’s like, I don’t want to watch them play. They’re too good.”
