Rabat – Morocco advanced into the 2026 World Cup quarter-finals for the second straight tournament after beating co-hosts Canada, a victory that also secures the team a massive multi-million dollar payout from FIFA.
The high-stakes round of 16 match took place at Houston Stadium in Texas, where the Atlas Lions secured a dominant 3–0 shutout over the Canadian side to book their spot in the next round.
Under FIFA’s updated prize structure for the 2026 tournament, reaching the final eight comes with a major financial bonus. Teams finishing between fifth and eighth place are now guaranteed a $19 million performance-based payout for their quarter-final run.
The $19 million payout is just one piece of Morocco’s financial success. When added to FIFA’s guaranteed base payments of $10 million for qualifying and $2.5 million for tournament preparation, the Atlas Lions’ total cash haul for the 2026 World Cup officially climbs to an impressive $31.5 million.
The financial ceiling only gets higher if the Atlas Lions keep winning. A fourth-place finish would elevate their total tournament earnings to $39.5 million, while third place climbs to $41.5 million.
The stakes skyrocket even further for the finalists. Including the initial qualification and preparation bonuses, the tournament runner-up will walk away with $45.5 million, while the ultimate 2026 World Cup champion will claim a grand total of $62.5 million.
The Atlas Lions will now face football powerhouse France in a highly anticipated quarterfinal showdown. The heavyweight match is scheduled for next Thursday at Boston Stadium, where Morocco will look to keep their historic World Cup run alive.
