Rabat – Morocco’s National Professional Football League has announced the suspension of the 2024-25 Throne Cup following the postponed Round of 16 fixture between AS FAR and Stade Marocain.
In a statement released on Saturday, the league said it took the decision in consultation with the competitions committee of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
The statement confirmed that the suspension will come into effect immediately after the delayed Round of 16 match scheduled for Wednesday, July 8.
The league added that the competition will resume at the beginning of the next sporting season, with the remaining schedule to be announced later in a separate statement.
The decision means the remainder of Morocco’s domestic cup competition will now be pushed back until the 2025-26 season calendar begins.
The league did not provide any further explanation regarding the reasons behind the suspension. However, the move comes during a busy football period in Morocco.
The Throne Cup remains one of the most prestigious tournaments in Moroccan football and traditionally brings together clubs from multiple divisions across the country.
