Rabat – French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu will travel to Morocco from July 15 to 16 for his first official visit abroad since he took office, placing Rabat at the center of Paris’ early diplomatic outreach.
Lecornu will arrive in the Moroccan capital on the evening of Wednesday, July 15. Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch will receive him at the airport alongside several members of his cabinet, according to information released by Matignon.
The French prime minister will travel with a sizable delegation that includes around a dozen ministers. Among them are Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, a lineup that reflects the breadth of issues expected to shape the talks, from diplomacy to security coordination.
On Thursday morning, Lecornu and Akhannouch will hold a bilateral meeting before addressing the press later in the day. Their exchange is expected to set the tone for discussions on shared priorities and ongoing cooperation between the two countries.
The agenda also includes a high-level meeting between French and Moroccan officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Lecornu will then visit the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, where he will lay a wreath in a gesture that carries both historical and symbolic weight.
The visit will close with an official lunch before the French delegation leaves Rabat later that afternoon.
This first trip abroad signals France’s intent to reaffirm its ties with Morocco at a time when both sides seek steady dialogue on regional challenges and strategic interests.Â
The choice of Rabat suggests a willingness to maintain momentum in a relationship that remains essential, despite periods of strain.
