Agadir – Moroccan police have arrested a sub-Saharan African national in connection with a fatal assault at a construction site in Marrakech, authorities announced on Sunday.
In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said officers from the Marrakech Judicial Police, working in coordination with their counterparts in Settat and based on intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), arrested the suspect today.Â
According to preliminary findings, the suspect allegedly became involved in an altercation with the victim, who was also of sub-Saharan African origin, at a construction site in Marrakech. Investigators are still working to establish the circumstances and motives behind the dispute.
The argument reportedly escalated when the suspect allegedly struck the victim with a fatal blow, causing the victim to die at the scene.
Police said intensive field investigations enabled officers to identify the suspect before tracking and arresting him during a security operation in the city of Settat.
The suspect has been placed in police custody as part of the judicial investigation, which is being conducted under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.
Authorities said the ongoing investigation aims to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and clarify all aspects of the case.
