Rabat – Morocco’s police arrested a 35-year-old German national at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca on Saturday, July 11, after authorities discovered he was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Germany.
The suspect was arrested shortly after his arrival on a flight to Morocco. A background check through Interpol’s database revealed that German authorities had flagged him for serious criminal charges.Â
The alert came through the National Central Bureau in Wiesbaden, which requested his location and detention.
According to security sources, the case relates to the cross-border trafficking of cannabis resin.Â
Investigators also link the suspect to a deliberate act of arson that targeted a vehicle, an incident believed to stem from a violent criminal dispute.
Following his arrest, Morocco’s authorities placed the suspect under custody as part of Morocco’s legal extradition process.Â
The move followed instructions from the competent public prosecutor. Interpol’s Rabat office has since informed its German counterpart, as the two sides proceed with the formal handover procedure.
This arrest reaffirms Morocco’s firm stance on international security cooperation. The country continues to work closely with global partners to track down and detain individuals wanted in transnational crime cases.
