Egypt Eyes Bid to Host AFCON 2028

Egypt is seriously considering submitting a bid to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Hamada El-Sherbiny, a board member of the Egyptian football association (EFA), revealed that the country is currently studying the possibility of submitting an official bid to host the prestigious continental tournament.

Following his interview with the radio station Mega FM, he emphasized that the EFA is thoroughly evaluating the move alongside relevant authorities and political leadership, which he said are highly committed to supporting and advancing sports in the country.

“Egypt is capable of organizing any tournament, whether it’s the Africa Cup of Nations, the World Cup, or the futsal World Cup,” El-Sherbiny stated. “However, hosting AFCON 2028 is at the top of our priorities at the moment.”

He further explained that during the recent EFA meetings, members were discussing the country’s hosting potential, expressing full confidence in what he described as Egypt’s world-class infrastructure and its readiness to successfully stage the event.

During his radio appearance, El-Sherbeny also highlighted the emotional connection between the national team and its supporters, stating: “The joy of the people is our greatest motivation to work harder and harder.”
