Spain’s Nico Williams praised Kylian Mbappé, but he still thinks his teammate Lamine Yamal is the best in the world of football.
Speaking in an interview with Spanish radio station “RNE Deporte,” Williams stated: “Mbappé is a fantastic player. He is one of those players who also arrived amidst a lot of criticism and pressure.”
He continued: “But you have to adapt very quickly, and everyone sees that Kylian is one of the best players in the world. However, we have the best player in the world, and that is Lamine Yamal.”
The Spanish national team is set to face their French counterparts tonight in the World Cup semi-final.
Kylian Mbappé is now the World Cup top scorer with 8 goals in 6 games, level with Leo Messi in the golden boot race, announcing himself as an irrepressible attacking machine.
On his side, Yamal has scored only one goal in this tournament, and he received criticism regarding his goal-scoring output during this World Cup
Responding to criticism, he responded, saying “If we win the World Cup, I think nobody will remember how many goals I scored or how many I didn’t. If we win, we’ll all be happy; that’s all I want. I know that with my movement, I draw a lot of opponents away; I can create space for a teammate. Anything I can do to help, even if I don’t touch the ball in a play, will be a positive. I think everyone’s obsessed with scoring goals, and we won the European Championship with me scoring a single goal.”
However, Lamine Yamal has never lost to Kylian Mbappé in a knockout match: the UEFA Euro 2024 semi-final, the 2025 Supercopa de España final, the 2025 Copa del Rey final, and the 2026 Supercopa de España final.
