Rabat – Harry Kane refused to confirm to the press whether England’s 2-1 World Cup semifinal defeat to Argentina marked his final World Cup dance, insisting it was “too early” to discuss his future, as he takes it year by year.
Kane leaves door open to another World Cup
Harry was asked after England’s 2-1 defeat to Argentina whether this was his last performance with the national team on football’s biggest stage.
He refused to give any clear, definitive answer to the media, mentioning that he takes his career year by year, and that he will always present his country at international events in the best way possible, giving it his all, as playing for England is what he loves the most.
The Bayern Munich striker admitted that processing the disappointment of another semifinal exit was his only priority for now.
“Again, it’s too early to talk about that,” Kane said, adding that he is taking it “year by year.”
“The national team is my pride and joy. It’s what I love to do more than anything…Obviously four years is a long way away. I’m 33 this summer, but it never ended with Leo. He’s still performing at the highest level,” the star said.
England’s heartbreak continues
Kane’s questionable international future came after another heartbreaking defeat for England, which came after a 1-0 lead with Anthony Gordon’s opener before goals from Enzo Fernández and Lautaro Martínez dashed the nation’s dream of the title coming back home.
Kane admitted the defeat was difficult to accept, believing England controlled much of the game before allowing momentum to shift in Argentina’s favor.
“I’m gutted. I’m gutted for the boys, I’m gutted for everyone—the team, the staff, the fans,” Kane said.
If Lionel Messi has shown anything through this tournament, it is that age does not always decide your performance in the World Cup—a lesson that Harry Kane seems to follow.
