Agadir – Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita represented King Mohammed VI at the African Union Extraordinary Summit held today in Accra.
“Upon Very High Royal Instructions, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita is representing King Mohammed VI at the African Union Extraordinary Summit on the elimination of AIDS and improving maternal health, addressing endemic communicable and non-communicable diseases and strengthening health systems by 2030,” Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Ministry announced today.
The event brought together African leaders discussing eliminating AIDS by 2030, improving maternal health, strengthening health systems, and addressing communicable and non-communicable diseases across the continent.
According to the ministry’s statement, Bourita attended the summit following “High Royal Instructions,” whom he dutifully represented at the high-level continental gathering.
During the summit, Bourita presented the royal vision of African health sovereignty, emphasizing “solidarity, social justice, and the sharing of expertise.”
Under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, he argued, Morocco has made health “a strategic pillar of its continental cooperation.” The top Moroccan diplomat added this policy directive aligns with the summit’s three main priorities: local pharmaceutical manufacturing, innovative funding, and political governance.
The summit focused on advancing efforts to eliminate AIDS by 2030 while tackling preventable maternal deaths, endemic communicable and non-communicable diseases, and reinforcing Africa’s health systems.
The meeting follows decisions adopted during the African Union’s 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government on evolving health priorities across the continent.
Participants also reviewed the African Union’s roadmap through 2030 and beyond, which is aimed at sustaining the HIV/AIDS response, strengthening resilient health systems, and enhancing health security across Africa.
In addition to Bourita, the Moroccan delegation at the continental summit included representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
