Rabat – Hijack Morgan signed a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge, with an option for a further year, according to the sports journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The deal represents a huge profit for Villa on Rogers, who was signed two years ago from Middlesbrough for around $8 million.
Statistics
During his three seasons with Aston Villa, Rogers scored 21 goals and made 17 assists in 85 Premier League appearances. He is also considered one of the most important members in Villa’s rise under Unai Emery. He helped the team qualify for the UEFA Champions League and later win the UEFA Europa League, scoring the third goal and providing an assist in the final against German side Freiburg.
Rogers has made 21 senior appearances for England, scoring once, and featured in six matches for the Three Lions at this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
Rogers had appeared most likely to join Arsenal this summer after the Premier League champions identified him as their top attacking target. However, Ornstein’s bombshell update on X on Saturday evening ended that possibility and is likely to have left the Gunners stunned.
With his ability to control the game’s tempo, dedicate play from deep, and contribute in the final third, Rogers brings quality and versatility to Chelsea’s midfield and is expected to strengthen the club’s bid to compete for the Premier League title next season.
