Casablanca – Morocco registered 42,905 new businesses between January and the end of May 2026, according to new figures from the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC).

Companies continued to make up most new registrations. Legal entities accounted for 75% of all newly registered businesses, up from 71% during the same period last year. The figures suggest more entrepreneurs are choosing to launch their businesses through formal company structures.

The single-shareholder limited liability company, or SARL AU, remained the most popular legal form. It represented 65.5% of all newly created companies. The standard SARL followed with 33.6%.

Business creation was once again heavily concentrated in a few regions.

Casablanca-Settat ranked first, accounting for 39.3% of all newly registered companies. Rabat-Salé-Kenitra came next with 14.3%, followed by Marrakech-Safi with 12.8% and Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima with 10.4%. Together, those four regions made up 76.8% of all new company registrations.

At the other end of the ranking, Guelmim-Oued Noun recorded the lowest share of new business registrations.

The numbers reflect where much of Morocco’s economic activity is taking place. Regions that attract more businesses also tend to attract more investment, jobs, and commercial activity, while new company registrations can support local economies and expand the country’s formal private sector.

Commerce remained the biggest sector for newly created companies, accounting for 27.6% of registrations. Construction and real estate followed with 25.2%. Various services represented 19.6%, while transport accounted for 7.7% and industry for 6.3%.

The picture was slightly different for individual businesses. Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima ranked first with 21.1% of registrations, ahead of Casablanca-Settat with 13.4% and the Oriental region with 10.7%.

OMPIC also issued 56,618 commercial names, known as negative certificates, between January and May 2026. The certificate is one of the first administrative steps required before registering a new business, making it an early indicator of continued entrepreneurial activity.
