Meknes – FIFA has officially opened fan voting for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Best XI, highlighting Moroccan midfielder Ismael Saibari among the nominees following the Atlas Lions’ quarter-final run.
However, the surprising exclusion of star goalkeeper Yassine Bounou from the shortlist has sparked widespread controversy and frustration among fans.
Saibari earned his spot on the shortlist thanks to an outstanding individual campaign with Morocco. The dynamic player emerged as a key pillar for the Atlas Lions, delivering standout performances that proved crucial in driving the team’s impressive run to the quarter-finals.
The 23-year-old player anchored Morocco’s attack at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scoring three goals in five appearances before suffering a hamstring injury in the 22nd minute of their 3–0 Round of 16 victory against Canada.
Voting on FIFA’s official portal will remain open over the coming days before the final 2026 World Cup Ideal XI is announced to honor the tournament’s top performers.
