Agadir – Morocco and Ghana have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic and investment cooperation, with both countries agreeing to strengthen investments, promote private sector partnerships, and explore new areas of collaboration.
Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, held talks on Tuesday in Accra with Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on the sidelines of the second session of the Morocco-Ghana Joint Cooperation Commission.
According to a statement from Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers reviewed the progress achieved in bilateral cooperation since King Mohammed VI’s official visit to Ghana in February 2017 and expressed their satisfaction with the steady development of relations between the two countries.
The ministers welcomed the growing presence of Moroccan companies in Ghana, particularly in strategic sectors including banking, housing, and infrastructure. They also encouraged greater Ghanaian investment in Morocco, emphasizing the need to strengthen two-way investment flows and expand public-private partnerships.
Both sides identified green energy, logistics, and the digital economy among the priority areas for future cooperation.
Beyond these sectors, Bourita and Ablakwa reaffirmed their determination to deepen collaboration in other strategic fields, including industry, hydrocarbons and mining, energy efficiency, customs cooperation, postal services, and agriculture.
On the trade front, the ministers agreed to encourage the organization of economic missions, business-to-business (B2B) meetings, trade fairs, and exhibitions to boost commercial exchanges and improve the trade balance between the two countries.
To support these efforts, Morocco and Ghana agreed to facilitate the regular organization of a private sector-led Ghana-Morocco Economic and Investment Forum on a rotating basis.
The meeting also addressed broader regional cooperation initiatives led by King Mohammed VI for Africa’s development.
According to the ministry, the Ghanaian side praised the King’s initiatives aimed at promoting Africa’s development, while both ministers welcomed the positive momentum generated by the African Atlantic States Process.
Ghana also welcomed the Royal Initiative to facilitate Atlantic Ocean access for landlocked Sahel countries, describing it as a concrete expression of African solidarity and South-South cooperation, the ministry said.
