Rabat – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has significantly increased the prize money for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), reinforcing its commitment to the growth of women’s football across the continent.
The winners of the tournament will now receive $2 million, a 100% increase from the previous edition’s estimated $1 million prize. CAF has also raised the competition’s total prize fund by 67%, from $3.475 million to $5.8 million.
The runners-up will earn $750,000, representing a 50% increase, while the third-place team will receive a 43% boost in prize money.

In addition, each of the 16 participating national teams will receive $150,000 in participation funding, up 20% from the $125,000 awarded in the last edition.
CAF noted that since its current leadership took office, the prize money for the WAFCON champions has increased by 900%, rising from $200,000 to $2 million. Over the same period, the tournament’s total prize pool has grown by 495%, from $975,000 to $5.8 million.
The financial investment has accompanied the expansion of the competition, with the number of participating teams doubling from 8 to 16, providing more African nations with the opportunity to compete on the continent’s biggest women’s football stage.
The latest prize money increase is part of CAF’s broader strategy to strengthen women’s football, improve competitiveness, and provide greater financial support to national teams participating in Africa’s premier women’s tournament.
