Meknes – Ipswich Town manager Gary O’Neil has voiced his enthusiasm over securing Moroccan international Issa Diop during the current summer transfer window.
The move brings an end to Diop’s time at Fulham, as he signs a long-term contract through 2030 and prepares to link up with his new Ipswich teammates ahead of the new season.
The English manager emphasized that the center-back’s extensive Premier League pedigree will bring immediate quality and leadership to the squad ahead of the new campaign.
Speaking to the club’s official website following the announcement, O’Neil couldn’t hide his satisfaction with the deal, pointing out the defender’s background at the highest level.
“Issa is an experienced player who has played a significant amount of his career in the Premier League, so we’re delighted to have him with us,” O’Neil said.
The Ipswich boss went on to praise the defender’s physical presence and mindset, emphasizing that his attributes extend beyond his Premier League experience.
“He is an imposing defender with good quality and a will to win, making him an excellent addition to the group,” he explained.
Looking ahead to Diop’s integration into the squad, the manager noted the momentum the center-back brings from his summer international duty.
“Having played and scored at the World Cup this summer, we’re looking forward to Issa joining up with the squad soon,” the manager concluded.
Diop’s standout moment at the 2026 FIFA World Cup came during Morocco’s dramatic Round of 32 showdown against the Netherlands in Monterrey.
With Morocco facing elimination in stoppage time, Diop pushed upfront to head Chemsdine Talbi’s deep cross in the 91st minute and force extra time.
