Morocco, International Islamic Fiqh Academy Sign Cooperation Memorandum

Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and the International Islamic Fiqh Academy signed a memorandum of understanding in Rabat on Thursday to strengthen cooperation on Islamic affairs and jurisprudence.

The memorandum was signed by Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Ahmed Toufiq and the Secretary General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, Qutb Mustafa Sano. It aims to boost coordination between the two institutions and encourage the exchange of expertise on issues related to Islamic jurisprudence and other areas of shared interest.

The agreement also seeks to share the experience of Morocco’s scientific and religious institutions with Muslim scholars from around the world. A key part of that effort involves presenting the country’s methodology of Tasdid Al Tabligh, an approach centered on guiding religious outreach while promoting the understanding that Islam is a religion that serves the public interest.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Sano described the memorandum as a distinctive agreement that reflects the academy’s ambition to benefit from the rich scholarly and intellectual expertise of Moroccan scholars.

As an international scientific body, he argued, the academy needs leading scholars who can help spread and reinforce the values of moderate Islam. He added that Morocco represents a practical and living model of an Islam based on moderation, tolerance, and cooperation.

Toufiq said the main purpose of the agreement is to introduce Muslim scholars to Morocco’s experience in religious scholarship, particularly its approaches to Tasdid Al Tabligh. He said the initiative also promotes the idea that Islam is a religion of public interest, provided that scholarly interpretations do not contradict established religious principles.

According to the minister, the memorandum will create opportunities to share Morocco’s religious and scientific experience with scholars of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy while strengthening cooperation in religious awareness efforts.
