Rabat – Al Hilal has reportedly dismissed speculation that French star Karim Benzema could be removed from the club’s domestic squad registration and included only in the AFC Champions League roster ahead of the 2026-27 season.
According to Saudi newspaper Al Yaum, citing sources close to the club, Al Hilal’s management has never discussed transferring Benzema to the Asian-only squad. The report says the rumors are completely unfounded.
Benzema remains a central figure in Al Hilal’s long-term project, with the coaching staff viewing the former Ballon d’Or winner as a key leader of the team’s attack in both domestic and continental competitions.
Instead of sacrificing Benzema’s place, Al Hilal is reportedly focused on resolving Darwin Núñez’s situation during the summer transfer window. The Uruguayan striker’s departure would allow the club to register both Benzema and Mohamed Kader Mite in the domestic squad while also creating room for another foreign signing.
The Saudi giants are eager to strengthen their attack following Marcos Leonardo’s exit and the expected departure of Núñez. Club officials are said to be evaluating three high-profile attacking targets as they look to add another prolific goalscorer before the new season.
According to the report, Al Hilal plan to finalize their foreign-player registrations and domestic squad list within the next three weeks, allowing the team to shift its full attention to preseason preparations ahead of the 2026-2027 campaign.
