Casablanca – Morocco on Tuesday strongly condemned the drone attacks targeting oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, calling the strikes a “flagrant violation” of the kingdom’s sovereignty and a dangerous escalation that threatens security across the Gulf and the wider Middle East.
In a statement, Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks constitute “a serious infringement on the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a grave attack on its national security, and an unacceptable threat to the security and stability of the Gulf region and the Middle East as a whole.”
The ministry expressed Morocco’s “full solidarity” with Saudi Arabia in the face of what it described as the aggression and reiterated Rabat’s unwavering support for “all legitimate measures” undertaken by Riyadh to defend its sovereignty, protect its security, and ensure the safety of citizens and residents.
The statement comes after Saudi Arabia announced that its air defenses intercepted several drones attempting to strike oil facilities in the Kingdom’s Eastern Province.
Saudi authorities said the drones were launched from Iraqi territory and accused Iran-backed militias of carrying out the attack, while affirming the Kingdom’s right to defend its territory and critical infrastructure.
The attempted strikes are the latest in a series of attacks targeting Saudi energy infrastructure amid heightened regional tensions.
In recent days, Houthi forces have also claimed attacks on Saudi oil installations and transport infrastructure, raising concerns over the security of global energy supplies and the risk of further escalation in the Gulf.
Morocco joins several Arab countries, including the United Arab Emirates, in condemning the attacks and reaffirming support for Saudi Arabia’s efforts to protect its sovereignty and maintain regional stability.
