Rabat  – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected Lagos, Nigeria, to host the CAF Awards 2026, marking the country’s first time staging the ceremony since 2015. While the host city and venue have been confirmed, CAF has not yet announced the official date for the event.

The ceremony will take place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, one of Lagos’ leading cultural landmarks. The annual event recognizes the best performers in African football, honoring outstanding players, coaches, clubs, and national teams from across the continent.

Nigeria’s selection comes as the country prepares to host CAF’s 48th Ordinary General Assembly in October. However, the governing body has not confirmed whether the two events will be held during the same period.

One of the most anticipated moments of the evening will be the announcement of the African Player of the Year and African Women’s Player of the Year awards.

Attention will be on whether Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak can successfully defend their titles after both claimed the continent’s top individual honors at the previous edition, or whether new winners will emerge.

The 2025 CAF Awards, held in Morocco, were dominated by Moroccan football, with the country collecting several of the ceremony’s top honors thanks to strong performances by its players and teams on both the continental and international stages.
