Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange-level weather alert warning of a heatwave and very hot weather in several parts of the country from Tuesday through Thursday.
Temperatures are expected to range between 44°C and 47°C in the provinces and prefectures of Errachidia, Taroudant, Zagora, Tata, Assa-Zag, Smara, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Aousserd.
Temperatures between 42°C and 45°C are forecast on Tuesday in Fquih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, Settat, El Kelaat Sraghna, and Marrakech.
Hot weather is also expected in Agadir Ida-Outanane, Essaouira, and Inezgane-Ait Melloul, where temperatures could range between 39°C and 42°C.
The new heatwave comes after several weeks of high temperatures across Morocco, with many residents seeking relief from the heat by heading to beaches, swimming pools, and other cooler areas.
Coastal cities, especially Agadir, have seen large crowds during the summer season as families and young people travel to the seaside to escape the intense heat affecting inland regions.
Beaches have become particularly busy during weekends and holiday periods, while many Moroccans have also chosen to travel at night or spend more time indoors during the hottest hours of the day.
Authorities advised residents in affected areas to take precautions during the hottest hours of the day, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
