Rabat – Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique has included Achraf Hakimi and several of the club’s French World Cup players in the squad for the European Super Cup against Aston Villa on Wednesday, August 12.
Hakimi returned to PSG training on Monday alongside the French internationals who had been given an extended summer break following their World Cup commitments. Despite having only completed around 48 hours of team training, the players have been called up for the European Super Cup.
Enrique’s decision comes after the Spanish coach had given the players individual fitness programs to follow during their holidays. The aim was to ensure they returned to the club in good physical condition and could quickly integrate into collective training.
Hakimi had been following an individual training program during his break, allowing him to make a smoother return to PSG’s preparations.
Enrique will also be able to count on PSG’s new signings, including Maghnes Akliouche and Lucas Digne, as well as third-choice goalkeeper Longoni.
Several key players are also returning after extended rest periods. The squad includes Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, Lucas Hernández, and Warren Zaïre-Emery.
PSG, the reigning UEFA Champions League winners, will face Aston Villa, the UEFA Europa League winners, in the European Super Cup on Wednesday as both sides battle for European silverware at the start of the new season.
