Rabat – The future of Moroccan international Sofyan Amrabat has taken a new turn, with Spanish side Real Betis reportedly putting negotiations to sign the midfielder on hold amid a change in the club’s transfer priorities.
According to Spanish television program El Chiringuito, Real Betis have decided to direct a significant portion of their available transfer budget toward strengthening their attack. As a result, a move for Amrabat has become difficult to complete at this stage.
The Andalusian club is currently prioritizing the signing of a new striker, forcing it to temporarily suspend its efforts to bring the Fenerbahce midfielder to Spain.
However, the possibility of Amrabat joining Real Betis has not been completely ruled out. The Spanish club could return to negotiations if it manages to free up additional funds after completing its planned attacking signing.
Amrabat has meanwhile returned to Istanbul, where he underwent medical tests before rejoining Fenerbahce training as the Turkish club prepares for the new season.
The 29-year-old midfielder remains under contract with Fenerbahce until June 2028, where he is currently continuing his preseason preparations with the Turkish side while his future remains uncertain.
Real Betis are not the only club reportedly interested in the Moroccan midfielder; the Greek side Olympiacos have also been linked with a move for Amrabat, potentially giving the player another option should he decide to leave Turkey.
Fenerbahce are expected to assess any formal offers that arrive for the midfielder, with the club yet to determine whether Amrabat will remain part of its plans for the upcoming season.
With the summer transfer window approaching its final stages, Amrabat’s future remains open, where he could either continuing his career with Fenerbahce or pursuing a new challenge elsewhere, with Real Betis potentially returning to the negotiating table if their financial situation allows.
