Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) is forecasting thunderstorms, possible hail, strong wind gusts, and a heatwave in several parts of the country from Wednesday through Friday.
The weather authority issued an orange-level weather alert warning of thunderstorms producing between 20 and 35 millimeters of rain, with a possibility of hail and strong wind gusts.
The affected areas include Ifrane, Khemisset, Figuig, Rehamna, Marrakech, Khenifra, Boulemane, Guercif, Taroudant, Kelaat Sraghna, Al Haouz, and Chichaoua.
The thunderstorms are expected on Wednesday between 1 p.m. and 11 p.m.
At the same time, a heatwave is expected to affect several southern provinces from Wednesday through Friday, with temperatures forecast to reach between 45 and 48 degrees Celsius.
The affected provinces are Aousserd, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Smara and Tata.
The latest warning comes after Morocco experienced several periods of intense heat in recent months, with temperatures exceeding 45°C in several areas. The country has also seen repeated weather alerts this summer, including previous heatwaves and thunderstorms.
As temperatures rise, beaches and coastal areas have become a popular escape for many Moroccans looking for cooler weather, with families and young people heading to the coast to swim and spend time by the water.
