Rabat – Moroccan international Noussair Mazraoui’s availability for Manchester United’s upcoming Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur remains uncertain following an injury sustained during the international break.
Mazraoui was forced off after being affected by a challenge during Morocco’s match against Lesotho last Tuesday in the second round of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The injury also ruled him out of Morocco’s friendly against Mali on Sunday.
Manchester United have yet to provide details about the nature of Mazraoui’s injury or the expected recovery period. His participation in Saturday’s match against Tottenham will therefore depend on the results of his medical assessment and his ability to return to team training.
The situation comes at an inconvenient time for United manager Michael Carrick, who is already dealing with an issue on the left side of his defense. Patrick Dorgu is also recovering from a muscular injury suffered during the international break.
Mazraoui and Dorgu are among the experienced options available to cover for Luke Shaw when the England international is unavailable. The uncertainty surrounding the Moroccan defender could therefore complicate Carrick’s preparations for the Tottenham fixture.
The 28-year-old defender has made five appearances for Manchester United across all competitions since the start of the 2026-27 season, including three starts. His versatility has made him an important option for the coaching staff.
Mazraoui can operate on both sides of the defense, giving Manchester United additional tactical flexibility. The club will now await further medical assessments before determining whether he can return in time for Saturday’s match.
United are scheduled to face Tottenham on Saturday in the sixth round of the Premier League.
