Rabat – Ali Benjelloun has been unanimously elected president of Maghreb de Fes’ sports association following the club’s ordinary electoral general assembly in Fes on Saturday.
Benjelloun was the sole candidate and received the club’s members’ backing. He succeeds Mohamed Bouzoubaa, who resigned as president in mid-September for personal reasons.
The new president had previously served as the association’s vice president and, following Bouzoubaa’s departure, took over on an interim basis in accordance with the club’s statutes.
Bouzoubaa also publicly supported Benjelloun’s candidacy ahead of the vote, helping pave the way for a smooth leadership transition.
Who is Ali Benjelloun?
Benjelloun is already a familiar figure within Maghreb de Fes and has been closely involved in the club’s recent administrative and financial restructuring.
A native of Fes, he has described himself as a lifelong MAS supporter whose connection to the club began in childhood. In recent years, he has worked within the club’s senior management and has been involved in administrative, financial and institutional matters.
Benjelloun has also played a role in discussions surrounding the development of MAS’ sporting company.
Speaking at the MEDays forum in 2024, he said the project aimed to mobilize MAD 100 million, around $10.8 million, from investors to support the club’s long-term sporting ambitions.
He argued that football investment should be approached as an economic project rather than as charity.
Following his election, Benjelloun said he intends to continue the project launched during Bouzoubaa’s presidency, with a focus on seriousness, transparency and openness in the club’s management.
His program also includes strengthening youth development, promoting local expertise and building stronger partnerships with businesses in the Fes-Meknes region to diversify the club’s sources of income.
Bouzoubaa remains involved in MAS project
Despite stepping down from the presidency, Bouzoubaa will remain involved with Maghreb de Fes.
The club said he would continue as the principal investor in its sporting company and support the next phase of the project. He has also been proposed to lead the club’s Council of Elders.
Saturday’s general assembly also reviewed MAS’ administrative and financial performance for the 2025-26 season.
The association recorded approximately MAD 21.13 million in expenses against MAD 21.08 million in revenue, leaving a deficit of MAD 58,327. Members also reviewed the moral and financial reports and heard the auditor’s report.
Benjelloun now takes permanent charge after several weeks as interim president, with his mandate expected to center on maintaining institutional stability while advancing the club’s sporting and financial development.
