Rabat – Sweden’s national police leadership has emphasized the importance of cooperation with Morocco after the arrest of a wanted Swedish suspect.
On Instagram, the official account of the Swedish national police leadership said the suspect was “convicted of attempting to recruit people to carry out murders.”
Moroccan security services announced today the arrest of a 22-year-old Swedish national in Agadir after authorities identified him as the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Sweden.
The arrest followed information provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
Police detained the suspect in Agadir’s Talborjt neighborhood. A check of Interpol databases confirmed that he was wanted internationally under a red notice issued at the request of Swedish judicial authorities.
Sweden seeks to enforce a prison sentence against the suspect in connection with cases involving drug trafficking, attempted murder, and participation in a criminal gang, the statement said.
Sweden’s national police leadership said the arrest is the fifth wanted Swedish national to be arrested in Morocco over the past month.
“Thank you to the Moroccan police for the excellent cooperation. Together, we ensure that serious criminals cannot evade justice,” the Swedish national police leadership said.
Morocco has been receiving international recognition for its security efforts, with many countries stressing the country’s importance as a strong ally in security cooperation.
The arrest reflects Morocco’s commitment to fighting cross-border crimes and intensifying international security cooperation.
Interpol frequently emphasizes the importance of Morocco’s security approach in handling crimes and contributing to regional stability and peace.
Last year, Morocco hosted the 93rd General Assembly of Interpol, where Morocco’s chief of the General Directorate of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi, reiterated Rabat’s firm commitment to contributing to strengthening global security cooperation.
“Morocco’s commitment to hosting the 93rd session of Interpol stems from its firm dedication to strengthening multilateral security cooperation and its active engagement in consolidating the international coalition against the threats posed by transnational organized crime,” Hammouchi said.
