Rabat – Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry said the country has started accepting Moroccan nationals’ visa applications starting today.
Taiwan’s news agency Focus Taiwan quoted a statement from the foreign affairs ministry as saying the decision ends a months-long suspension imposed in July.
The decision comes after Morocco also resumed accepting visa applications from Taiwanese nationals in September, with Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry welcoming the Moroccan government’s decision.
This move is to “reciprocate by resuming the processing of visa applications from Moroccan nationals,” the news agency said, recounting the previous suspension’s impacts on bilateral exchanges.
Taiwan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry in Taiwan meanwhile said a staff member at its office in Tokyo confirmed with the Moroccan Embassy in Japan, where Taiwan’s travel agencies submitted visa applications for travelers heading to Morocco, that the country had resumed processing visa applications on September 21.
In September, the same news agency announced that Morocco had resumed processing tourist visa applications from Taiwanese passport holders, with the resumption covering applications filed for tourism purposes only.
Morocco does not have official relations with Taiwan, as Rabat recognizes the One-China policy. The kingdom maintains formal diplomatic relations with China, one of its main trade partners, with trade totaling over $10.9 billion in 2025.
China asked Morocco for a free trade deal this past June, according to Moroccan Minister of Industry Ryad Mezzour.
The Moroccan minister revealed the news in an interview with Bloomberg, stating that Morocco is conducting a granular impact assessment but has not initiated formal negotiations.
