Casablanca – A 52-year-old Moroccan worker died on Monday after his car collided head-on with a truck on the access ramp to Bologna Interporto in Bentivoglio, near Bologna, northern Italy.
The victim, identified as S.R., had finished his shift at one of the companies operating inside the industrial and logistics complex. He was driving his car home to Bologna at around 2 p.m. when the accident occurred.
According to Italian newspaper Il Resto del Carlino, S.R. had just entered the ramp, which carries traffic in both directions. His car veered into the opposite lane, where a truck driven by a 51-year-old Moroccan man was approaching.
The two vehicles collided violently. The impact crushed the car’s cabin and trapped S.R. inside the wreckage.
Firefighters arrived at the scene after other motorists and the truck driver alerted emergency services. They worked to free the victim from the wrecked vehicle.
Medical teams also responded with an ambulance, a medical car and a helicopter ambulance. However, S.R. died at the scene from his injuries.
The truck driver suffered minor injuries. Emergency services took him to Bentivoglio Hospital for treatment.
Carabinieri officers from the local station and the Molinella company also arrived at the scene to investigate the crash. They are working to establish why S.R.’s car crossed into the opposite lane. Investigators have not yet determined the cause and are examining whether a distraction or a sudden medical emergency may have contributed to the accident.
