Rabat – The Royal Theater of Rabat has warned the public against fake concert advertisements from a verified Instagram page using its name to promote shows by popular Arab singers, urging music fans to check official sources before buying tickets.
In a warning shared through its official social media channels, the theater said the advertisements did not reflect its actual program. It advised the public to rely on its official website and verified social media accounts for information about upcoming performances.
The fake posters advertised concerts by Lebanese singers Wael Kfoury, Fadel Shaker and Elissa, as well as Syrian singer Assala Nasri and Saudi singer Abdul Majeed Abdullah.
The latest warning follows earlier reports of concert ticket scams targeting Moroccan music fans from the same page. In August, hundreds of social media users said they had been scammed by an Instagram page promoting a fake concert featuring Iraqi singer Kadim Al Sahir and Lebanese singer Wael Kfoury at the Royal Theater of Rabat.
The page used the theater’s name to promote the event, while tickets were advertised for between MAD 1,000 and MAD 2,000. According to local media reports, users said they had paid for tickets to a concert that does not even exist.
Other reports in July described fake ticket offers priced between MAD 1,000 and MAD 2,000, with scammers allegedly collecting payments through suspicious online booking links before disappearing. The repeated incidents have raised concerns about fraudulent pages using the names and logos of cultural venues and popular artists to deceive the public.
A new cultural venue in Rabat
Located in the Bouregreg Valley, the Royal Theater of Rabat officially opened in April in a ceremony attended by Princesses Lalla Khadija, Lalla Meryem and Lalla Hasnaa, alongside France’s Brigitte Macron.
Designed by the late Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid, the venue was built to host concerts, theater productions, dance performances, and other cultural events.
Since opening, it has welcomed Moroccan and international artists, including Emirati singer Hussain Al Jassmi, Iraqi singer Kadim Al Sahir, Canadian musician Bryan Adams, and trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf.
