Rabat – Moroccan international Bilal El Khannouss showed a touching gesture of sportsmanship after accidentally breaking a young opponent’s tooth during Stuttgart’s Bundesliga clash against Hamburg.

The incident occurred during Stuttgart’s 1-0 defeat to Hamburg at the Volksparkstadion, involving the 22-year-old Moroccan midfielder and Hamburg’s 17-year-old defender Louis Lemke.

The two players were involved in an accidental collision in the 13th minute, leaving Lemke with half of his upper front tooth broken.

The incident later turned into a lighthearted exchange on social media, with El Khannouss offering to cover the teenager’s dental expenses.

An unfortunate collision on the pitch

The incident happened when Lemke made a clean sliding tackle near the touchline. El Khannouss attempted to jump over the young defender to avoid contact, but his boot accidentally struck Lemke in the face.

The impact caused a dental injury and bleeding, forcing medical staff to intervene and provide immediate treatment.

Despite the painful-looking collision, Lemke managed to continue playing and showed remarkable determination.

Speaking after the match, the Hamburg youngster explained that he needed to visit a dentist but was not experiencing any pain.

“I have a dentist appointment immediately, but I don’t feel any pain,” he said.

The incident attracted attention because of the unusual injury and the positive attitude displayed by both players afterward.

The story took a humorous turn on Sunday when Lemke shared a picture on Instagram showing his damaged tooth before and after receiving dental treatment.

“Half a tooth missing and three points secured. The tooth has already been fixed,” the young defender wrote.

El Khannouss quickly responded to the post, apologizing for the accidental injury.

“Sorry, my friend,” the Moroccan international commented.

Lemke reassured him that everything was fine, replying, “Don’t worry, my friend, the tooth is back in place.”

The Stuttgart midfielder then offered a playful response that caught the attention of football fans.

“Send me the bill,” El Khannouss wrote, adding a laughing emoji.

The friendly exchange highlighted the mutual respect between the two players despite the unfortunate incident during their Bundesliga encounter.

It also showed a different side of football, where sportsmanship and humor can turn an unpleasant moment into a positive interaction.

El Khannouss continues his Bundesliga Journey

The incident comes during another important chapter in El Khannouss’ career in German football.

The Moroccan midfielder, who previously played for Belgian club Genk and English side Leicester City, has established himself among Morocco’s promising young footballers.

Known for his technical ability, creativity, and vision in midfield, El Khannouss has also represented Morocco on the international stage.

He was part of the Moroccan national team that made history by reaching the semifinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, becoming the first African and Arab nation to achieve that milestone.

He also contributed to Morocco’s historic bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

While the Bundesliga encounter ended in disappointment for Stuttgart, the exchange between El Khannouss and Lemke offered a positive moment beyond the final score.
