Casablanca – Morocco’s national futsal team collected three of the four awards at the 2026 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Hicham Dguig’s side capped a successful campaign that saw them secure a record fourth consecutive continental title.
The awards ceremony took place on Wednesday evening in Rabat, shortly after Morocco defeated Angola 5-2 in the final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Hall.
Moroccan international Youssef Jouad earned the tournament’s Best Player award after playing a central role in the Atlas Lions’ attacking performances throughout the competition.
Jouad opened the tournament with a hat-trick against Algeria in Morocco’s 4-0 victory and continued to contribute as the hosts progressed through the competition.
He also scored in Wednesday’s final, restoring Morocco’s lead in the 19th minute, just one minute after Angola had canceled out Othmane El Idrissi’s opening goal.
Morocco eventually extended their advantage through goals from Idriss Raiss El-Fenni, Ismail Amazal, and Bilal Bakkali to secure their fourth African crown.
Morocco’s defensive record earns recognition
Goalkeeper Youssef Bensalam received the Best Goalkeeper award after helping Morocco maintain a strong defensive record throughout the tournament.
The Atlas Lions reached the final without conceding a single goal, having defeated Algeria, Zambia, Libya, and Egypt by a combined score of 23-0.
Angola became the first team to score against Morocco in the competition, but their two goals could not prevent the hosts from claiming another title.
Morocco also received the Fair Play award, which recognizes teams for their sportsmanship and conduct throughout the tournament.
Angolan international Joao Cambangula claimed the remaining individual honor, finishing as the competition’s top scorer with eight goals.
The awards followed another successful campaign for Dguig’s team, who won all five matches and scored 28 goals while conceding just twice.
Morocco previously lifted the continental trophy in 2016, 2020, and 2024. Wednesday’s victory moved them ahead of Egypt, who won the competition three times in 1996, 2000, and 2004.
The latest title also made Morocco the first nation to win four consecutive editions of the Futsal AFCON, extending a run that began a decade ago.
