Rabat – In an interview with Radio J, a Jewish community Radio, on Saturday, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said that there is no reason to grant French citizenship to Muslim scholar Tariq Ramadan.

“There is no reason for Mr. Ramadan to obtain French nationality. When one aspires to be French, he aspires to share the French values,” said the French PM. Tariq Ramadan’s values contradicts with French values, he added, according to the Huffington Post Maghreb.

Tariq Ramadan said on his Facebook page in February that he had decided to apply for French citizenship.

The Prime Minister also denounced what he called “Islamo-leftism,” an expression that “I take from Jean-Marie Le Guen, Secretary of State for Relations with Parliament,” he said.

“There are always these capitulations, these ambiguities with the Indigenous of the Republic (an anti-racism movement which allegedly has links with Ramadan), discussions with Ms. Clémentine Autain and Tariq Ramadan maintained ambiguities that form the breeding ground for violence and radicalization.”

Clémentine Autain, the spokesperson of the movement, said Sunday that she is ready to file a complaint against the Prime Minister if she does not get an apology from him.

Valls statements are considered clear accusations of not only Tariq Ramadan but also the Indigenous of the Republic movement.
