Doha – Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita outlined today what King Mohammed VI considers as the five key determinants of the country’s position on the Middle East issue and the situation in Gaza, reiterating the North African kingdom’s principled commitment to the Palestinian cause.
“The keen interest we take in the situation prevailing in the country does not mean we are oblivious of, or insensitive to, the tragedy befalling our Palestinian brothers and sisters,” King Mohammed VI had emphasized in a speech commemorating the 25th anniversary of his accession to the throne.
Bourita, who was speaking at the 162nd session of the Arab League Council’s ministerial meeting in Cairo, echoed this sentiment. The top Moroccan diplomat spoke emphatically of what he presented as Rabat’s unwavering support for constructive initiatives aimed at finding practical solutions to achieve a tangible and permanent ceasefire and address the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
He stressed the urgent need to bring an end to the devastating war in Gaza, arguing that only a permanent ceasefire would help in opening political prospects for a just and lasting peace in the region.
Bourita also called for the adoption of negotiations to revive the peace process between the Palestinian and Israeli parties.
The establishment of security and stability in the region can only be fully achieved within the framework of the two-state solution, he argued, emphasizing the need to ensure that Gaza remains an integral part of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

During the Cairo meeting, the Arab ministerial committee responsible for international action against Israeli policies and measures in occupied Jerusalem (Al-Quds) commended the efforts and projects implemented by the Bayt Mal Al Quds Al Sharif Agency, the executive arm of the Al Quds Committee, under the chairmanship of King Mohammed VI.
In particular, the committee reiterated its support for the role of the Al Quds Committee and the importance of the agency in supporting the resistance of the region, its residents, and the Palestinian cause.
Morocco has consistently demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause through various humanitarian initiatives, including sending aid to Gaza.
In March and June of this year, King Mohammed VI ordered the delivery of over 80 tons of food and medical supplies to assist Palestinians amid the ongoing Israeli Occupation Forces’ campaign in the Gaza Strip.
The country has been vocal in condemning the attacks under the Israeli Occupation Forces’ relentless campaign and has repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire.
Since Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza in October last year, Moroccans have repeatedly taken to the streets in major cities across Morocco to condemn the unrelenting Israeli violence while expressing solidarity with Palestinians and urging the Moroccan government to sever diplomatic ties with Israel.
Bourita concluded his Cairo speech by reaffirming Morocco’s commitment to the principles of good neighborliness, the preservation of the national sovereignty of Arab states, non-interference in their internal affairs, and the pursuit of overcoming temporary differences and sectarian strife.
