Rabat – Morocco’s U23 national football team has sealed its ticket to the next round of the football Olympics following an impressive 3-0 victory against Iraq at the Parc des Princes Stadium.
Morocco established dominance from the start of the game, applying relentless pressure on the Iraqi defense.
The Atlas Lions wasted no time signaling their attacking intentions, nearly scoring in the third minute with a close call that had Iraq scrambling to maintain their defense.
As the game unfolded, Morocco’s strategy of aggressive forward play paid off handsomely.
The breakthrough came in the 19th minute when Amir Richardson soared above the Iraqi defenders to deliver a stunning header, scoring the first goal of the match. The brilliant play gave Morocco the lead and set the tone for the rest of the first half.
Morocco continued to capitalize on their momentum. Star player Soufiane Rahimi added to the scoreline in the 28th minute with a skillful finish that left the Iraqi goalkeeper with no chance.
The Atlas Lions were relentless in their pursuit of victory, and just before halftime, Abde Ezzalzouli found the back of the net, solidifying a commanding 3-0 lead.
The second half saw Iraq attempting to regroup and challenge Morocco’s defense, but their efforts were ultimately in vain as a now confident and reassured Morocco dug in to survive the occasional Iraqi onslaughts.
This victory propels Morocco into the quarter-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics, where they impressively advance ahead of Argentina as the top team in Group B.
