Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, engaged in talks with Senegal’s Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Yassine Fall, on Thursday in Banjul, Gambia.

The discussions, which took place on the sidelines of the upcoming 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference, revolved around strengthening bilateral relations and addressing mutual interests and regional challenges.

Highlighting the significance of the meeting, both parties emphasized the commitment to deepen ties under the leadership of King Mohammed VI and Senegal’s newly appointed Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

The longstanding relationship between Morocco and Senegal spans various sectors, including politics, economics, culture, social, and spiritual domains, underscoring the depth of their cooperation.

This meeting underscores the close ties between Morocco and Senegal. Last month, Aziz Akhannouch, Morocco’s Head of Government, represented King Mohammed VI at President Faye’s inauguration ceremony.

Notably, King Mohammed VI was the only head of state outside the sub-region to receive an invitation, highlighting the exceptional nature of the Morocco-Senegal relationship.

Senegal is a strong supporter of Morocco’s territorial integrity in Western Sahara, and is one of the few African nations to open consulates in Morocco’s southern provinces in a symbolic gesture of support.

Attended by key diplomats and officials, including Mohamed Methqal, Ambassador and General Director of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation, and Ahmed Belhaj, the Chargé d’affaires of the Moroccan Embassy in Gambia, the meeting underscored the strategic importance of collaboration between the two nations.

The focus on strengthening ties between Morocco and Senegal reflects a broader trend of Morocco’s proactive diplomacy in Africa. The kingdom is actively seeking to solidify partnerships and collaborations across the continent.
