Rabat – Moroccan security and customs authorities successfully intercepted a major drug trafficking attempt at Tangier-Med port yesterday, seizing 8 tons and 196 kilograms of hashish concealed in a cargo truck.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the drugs were carefully packed in plastic bars inside a truck registered in Morocco, which was preparing to depart on a ferry bound for a European port.
The authorities recovered a total of 8 tons and 196 kilograms of hashish.
The 50-year-old Moroccan driver of the truck was taken into custody and placed under judicial investigation by the competent public prosecutor.
The inquiry aims to uncover all circumstances surrounding the case, including any domestic and international links to the criminal network.
The DGSN noted that this operation reflects ongoing intensified efforts by security services at border points to combat international drug trafficking and the spread of narcotics.
This seizure is part of a broader strategy by Morocco to combat international drug trafficking.
Coordinated efforts between national security forces and customs authorities aim to bolster border controls, disrupt organized narcotics networks, and secure trade routes.
