Interior Ministry Urges Maximum Vigilance Amid Weather Disturbances in Morocco

A new weather alert forecasts very heavy rainfall, affecting several provinces this weekend.

Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of the Interior urged citizens to exercise caution as the country is expecting weather disturbances, including strong winds, snowfall, and heavy rainfall in the coming days.

The ministry said local authorities are collaborating with different departments to ensure all necessary measures are taken to address the potential impacts of the weather.

“These measures include field interventions such as cleaning and maintaining drainage networks and channels, clearing watercourses and sensitive areas, and addressing vulnerable points prone to water accumulation,” the ministry said.

The statement also pledged human resources, essential logistical means in a state of maximum readiness to ensure rapid interventionprovide assistance and support whenever necessary to safeguard citizens’ safety and their property.

It reasserted its appeal, calling on citizens to act responsibly and cooperate positively, emphasizing the need to strictly adhere to the guidance and instructions issued by authorities.

Today, the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) reaffirmed that cold weather, with snowfall and heavy rainfall, is coming on Friday and Saturday across several regions in Morocco.

In the new weather alert, the weather office said strong storm-force winds of 90 to 105 kilometers per hour are expected in Al Haouz and Chichaoua. Meanwhile, winds of 90 to 100 kilometers will affect the provinces and prefectures of El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Safi, Essaouira, Midelt, and Azilal.

Wind of 75 to 90 kilometers is also expected in the provinces of Youssoufia, Figuig, Jerada, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, Kelaa Seraghna, Marrakech, Rhamna, Agadir Ida-Outanane, Taroundat, and Bouelmane.

The same weather will affect Guercif and Berkane from 11:30 a.m. until Saturday midnight.

Winds between 75 to 90 kilometers per hour are also expected to hit Rabat, Temara, Skhirat, Nouaceur, Casablanca, Mediouna, Berrchid, Mohammedia, Benslimane, and Settat from Friday night to tomorrow at 6 a.m.

The same weather will affect El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Safi, Essaouira, Chichaoua, Berrechid, Al Haouz, Figuig, and Ouarzazate from Saturday 12 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Very heavy rainfall between 80 to 120 millimeters will concern mountainous areas in the prefectures of Agadir, Outanane, Taroudant, and Essaouira from 5 p.m. until Saturday, 11 p.m.

Rainfall will also affect Safi, Sidi Bennour, El Jadida, Chtouka Ait Bah, and other provinces across the country.
