Rabat – Romain Saiss, the captain of the Moroccan national football team, has expressed his satisfaction with the choice of Morocco by FIFA to co-organize the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
“It is a historic moment for our country,” the Atlas Lions captain said in an Instagram post.
He added that FIFA’s designation of the joint Morocco-Portugal-Spain bid to host world football’s ultimate showpiece is a “great source of pride and a fair reward for all the hard work put into developing Moroccan football in recent years.”
On Wednesday, October 4, Morocco’s Royal Cabinet broke the news of the FIFA Executive Committee’s unanimous decision to grant Morocco, Portugal, and Spain the hosting rights of the 2030 World Cup.
In its statement, the Royal Cabinet said: “His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, is pleased to announce to the Moroccan people that the FIFA Executive Committee has unanimously selected the Morocco-Spain-Portugal bid as the sole candidacy for hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup.”
For its part, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) congratulated the three host countries on winning the right to host the 2030 World Cup.
“CAF believes that Morocco’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2030 will contribute significantly to the development and growth of football in Africa, particularly amongst the African youth whose population is the fastest growing youth population in the World,” CAF stated in a press release.’
