Nayef Aguerd is expected to be included in Morocco’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.
The 30-year-old defender should expect a call-up from Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi despite recent doubts over his fitness.
Aguerd has been out for several weeks after suffering another injury during his time with Olympique de Marseille. The Moroccan international later returned home to continue his recovery and work toward being fit for the World Cup.
Few details had emerged about his rehabilitation in recent weeks. That led to growing uncertainty over his place in Morocco’s final squad.
However, Foot Mercato reports that Aguerd is now on track to play in the tournament. The news comes as a boost for Morocco, especially as questions remain around the team’s defensive depth.
Aguerd missed Morocco’s recent friendlies against Ecuador and Paraguay. In his absence, Chadi Riad, Issa Diop and Redouane Halhal were among the defensive options used by the national team.
One of Morocco’s most experienced defenders, Aguerd’s expected return could be important for the Atlas Lions ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The official squad will be announced by Ouahbi tomorrow at 7 PM local time, in a press conference.
